Javier Tebas  President of LaLiga, participated this Thursday in business activities during the official visit of the Spanish Royal Family to China. His efforts focused on enhancing sports cooperation and strengthening collaboration in areas such as audiovisual innovation, content creation, and the promotion of LaLiga in East Asia.

During the State Visit of Their Majesties the Kings of Spain to the People’s Republic of China, Tebas attended the Spain-China Forum, the Business Advisory Council meeting, and the gala dinner hosted by President Xi Jinping. He emphasized the role of sports as a catalyst for development and mutual understanding.

After the meetings, Tebas highlighted that China is a priority market for LaLiga, noting that football serves as a cultural bridge: “LaLiga has been working in China for over a decade, making the brand more international, engaging with its followers, and fostering the development of local football by sharing our knowledge and expertise.”

Sergi Torrents, General Director of LaLiga China, further emphasized the importance of the Chinese market in LaLiga’s global strategy. He stated, “Today, we reach over 900 million people in China through various platforms and connect directly with nearly 10 million fans on social media. This relationship is built on cooperation, mutual learning, and a shared passion for football.”

Additionally, Tebas met in Beijing with Shen Haixiong, Deputy Minister of the Publicity Department of the Central Committee and President of China Media Group (CMG), a major figure in the country’s media sector. This meeting aimed to reinforce collaboration in areas such as audiovisual innovation, content creation, and the promotion of LaLiga in China through the CCTV5 channel.

Earlier this year, LaLiga and the Chinese Professional Football League (CFL) signed a cooperation agreement extending to 2029, which includes advisory services on governance, economic regulation, youth training, and club sustainability.
