Barcelona Plans Tribute for Lionel MessiBarcelona Plans Tribute for Lionel Messi

The recent announcement by Joan Laporta regarding Lionel Messi is not surprising to football enthusiasts. Messi spent an impressive 21 years in Catalonia, beginning his journey with FC Barcelona at the age of 13. During his remarkable tenure, he netted 672 goals in 778 appearances and secured 35 major titles, including seven Ballon d’Or awards.

Laporta indicated that a special event to honor Messi’s legacy with the club will be organized in the near future.

On the proposed statue, Laporta stated, “All of us culés would like to see a statue of Leo Messi at Spotify Camp Nou. We are currently working on it, and once we have the design, we will consult with his family, should they wish to be involved.”

Earlier this week, Barcelona’s president also confirmed plans for a significant event to be held once the stadium reopens. He remarked, “It is only fitting that Leo receives the most beautiful tribute in the world. With the stadium’s capacity reaching 105,000 fans, we would love for him to be present.

“We are diligently working on the tribute to ensure that the best football experience is available, and as part of this, we aim to offer Leo the homage he rightfully deserves.”

This announcement follows Messi’s unexpected visit to the refurbished stadium, where he experienced considerable success. The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner shared images of himself on the Camp Nou pitch via his Instagram account, which garnered over 29 million likes.

Reflecting on his return, Messi conveyed his deep emotions to Spanish outlet SPORT, stating, “I really want to go back there. My family and I miss Barcelona greatly, often discussing the idea of moving back. We still own our house there, and that’s what we desire. I am looking forward to returning to the stadium once it is finished because I haven’t been back since I left for Paris, and they transitioned to Montjuïc.”

The Inter Miami star expressed regret regarding his departure from the club in 2021, hinting at a desire to don the iconic red and blue jersey once more before retiring. While a return may not be feasible for the 38-year-old, Laporta’s commitment to honoring Messi’s illustrious legacy will provide an opportunity for both the player and Barcelona fans to reflect on their extraordinary relationship.
