In a brief statement, as previously reported by MARCA two weeks ago, Valencia CF has dismissed Miguel Ángel Corona. The newly appointed CEO, Ron Gourlay, has decided to terminate the contract of the technical secretary after five years in the position and is initiating the long-anticipated reorganization of the club’s sporting department.

Corona, who joined Valencia alongside César Sánchez, assumed his role after the former goalkeeper’s departure, which followed the controversial dismissal of coach Celades by Peter Lim. Over the years, Corona managed to secure responsibilities related to player signings; however, Gourlay’s arrival clearly indicated that Corona’s influence within the club had diminished, ultimately leading to his dismissal.

The termination statement, comprising just 31 words, reads: “Valencia CF announces the end of its contractual relationship with Miguel Ángel Corona. The club wishes to thank him for his commitment over the past five years and wishes him success in the future.”

As early as October 17, MARCA readers were informed that Corona’s time at the club was effectively over under the new CEO. The report emphasized Gourlay’s commitment to implementing a new sporting structure.

Three weeks later, the club has officially confirmed Corona’s departure, which follows a tenure characterized by more disappointments than successes. In fact, during the last five years, Valencia has come perilously close to relegation on three occasions, with very few successful player acquisitions amid a strict austerity policy.

With this decision, Corberán is set to play a more significant role in shaping the squad. The club will soon introduce new personnel in the scouting and recruitment areas, but Gourlay is determined to enhance the coach’s authority in player signings, despite the coach’s previous public assertions that it was not within his remit.
