Arsenal currently sits atop the Premier League table after 11 matches, positioning themselves strongly in their quest for a first league title since the 2003-04 season. With an impressive record of eight wins, two draws, and only one loss to Liverpool, the Gunners have established themselves as the early frontrunners in England’s elite competition.

However, Mikel Arteta’s team experienced a minor setback just before the international break. They were held to an exhilarating 2-2 draw against high-flying Sunderland on November 8, which allowed title rivals Manchester City to close the gap. City secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Liverpool, moving to second place in the standings, now just four points behind Arsenal.

Arsenal recently received unfortunate news regarding influential defender Calafiori, who will be returning to London due to unspecified “issues” following his involvement with the Italian national team ahead of their match against Norway. Italy’s coach, Gennaro Gattuso, confirmed, “Calafiori left the training camp. We attempted to assess his fitness, but it became clear that it wouldn’t be fair to him or Arsenal to risk his health.”

The 23-year-old Calafiori has been pivotal for Arsenal’s defense, which has conceded only five league goals in the current season. He has played 11 league matches, scoring once and providing two assists, and has also contributed to Arsenal’s perfect record in the Champions League thus far.

In addition to Calafiori’s withdrawal, Arsenal teammate Gabriel was substituted during Brazil’s recent 2-0 win over Senegal due to an abductor injury. Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti remarked, “We are concerned about this injury; the medical staff will evaluate him further. We are disappointed because injuries are always a setback.”

Arsenal’s injury list is growing, with key players Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Noni Madueke, Viktor Gyokeres, and captain Martin Odegaard all currently sidelined. Earlier this week, Norway manager Stale Solbakken provided an update on Odegaard, indicating that the midfielder is still “some distance away” from returning to full fitness following a medial ligament injury sustained on October 4.

Solbakken stated, “Odegaard is making steady progress, but he still has a long way to go. He will join us for continued rehabilitation after returning from his club’s training.”

Despite his injury, Odegaard chose to join the Norway national team as they approach qualification for the 2026 World Cup, having recently secured a 4-1 victory over Estonia. Norway currently leads Group I, three points ahead of Italy, making qualification highly probable.

Arsenal will return to Premier League action next Sunday, facing fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur in a highly anticipated north London derby at the Emirates Stadium. Tottenham, currently fifth in the table, trails Arsenal by eight points, having won five of their 11 matches.
