Harry Kane has expressed confidence in England’s capabilities following their impressive World Cup qualification campaign under coach Thomas Tuchel.

As the Euro 2024 runners-up, England ranks among the favorites for success in North America next summer, making them a team others will likely wish to avoid in the December 5 draw. They secured their spot at the finals with two matches to spare and concluded their qualification journey with a perfect record, achieving eight victories and eight clean sheets, capped off by Kane’s two goals in a 2-0 victory over Albania.

This accomplishment marks the first time a European team has achieved such a feat in at least six World Cup qualifiers, underscoring the potential of Tuchel’s squad. “Whenever you’re creating history, it shows that you’re on the right path,” stated England captain Kane.

“I believe we’ve had many successful qualifying campaigns in the recent past, and we’ve surpassed them with this one. We can take immense pride in the hard work we’ve invested. While we may not always receive due recognition for these types of victories and campaigns, we’ve done our job effectively and with style. We should be proud of that and look forward to the new year.”

With only two friendly matches scheduled in March before Tuchel announces his World Cup squad, the back-to-back Euro runners-up aim to build on their near misses under Gareth Southgate. When asked about sending a message to the international community with their flawless campaign, Kane remarked, “I’m not sure if it’s a message, but it certainly shows what we’re capable of. Not conceding a goal throughout the campaign is a significant achievement in itself, and ultimately, clean sheets can win tournaments.

“Clean sheets have propelled us to two finals and semi-finals; in crucial matches, it’s vital to maintain solidity and compactness in defense, which we’ve demonstrated. Coupled with our attacking and midfield talent, we are a challenging team to defeat.

“However, there is still much work to be done, and we must remain grounded. This group’s special nature is that we’re looking forward to our next camp. It may be a while, but we plan to rest and regroup in March to maintain our momentum.”

England fans will be hoping Kane can sustain his impressive form, having reached a personal tally of 28 goals for both club and country this season. “It’s hard to fully process this achievement,” said the Bayern Munich striker. “When you’re on a roll like this, you eagerly anticipate the next match.

“I mentioned in the pre-match press conference that I feel this is the best form I’ve ever been in and that my overall play is at the highest level. We will see how many goals I can accumulate; there’s a long season ahead, but if I can maintain this level of performance, I expect a significant number by the season’s end.”
