Germany executed a commanding demolition on Monday night, decisively defeating Slovakia 6-0 in their final World Cup qualifying match, thereby securing direct entry into next year’s World Cup.

The hosts initiated the scoring through the prolific Nick Woltemade in the 18th minute, who continued his impressive goal-scoring streak for the national team.

Serge Gnabry extended the lead in the 29th minute, followed by Leroy Sane, who, having been cautioned by head coach Julian Nagelsmann about his limited opportunities, silenced his critics by netting two goals just before halftime.

In the second half, substitutes Ridle Baku and Assan Ouedraogo added to Slovakia’s woes by scoring a goal each. This emphatic victory underscored Germany’s potential to dominate their opponents, particularly following a surprising 2-0 defeat to Slovakia in their initial qualifying match in September.

Post-match, Nagelsmann expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, acknowledging the earlier setbacks and the pressure they faced, especially after their previous loss to Slovakia. “I’m really proud of the team,” he stated. “We had a challenging start to the qualifiers, but today the pressure was on. It was an excellent game, with every player contributing immensely. Our defensive efforts were commendable, and we showcased remarkable footballing skills.”

Captain Joshua Kimmich lauded the team’s performance, saying, “We knew that if we played close to our best, victory was within reach. The coach prepared us exceptionally well and provided encouraging words. It was a strong performance, and everyone was eager to make a statement.”

Nico Schlotterbeck, a key defender under Nagelsmann, expressed confidence in the team’s capabilities, saying, “If we maintain this level, we can be a formidable team. With the return of our injured players, I believe we can achieve great success at the World Cup.”

Woltemade, who has found the net four times in his last three matches for the national team, shared his relief after the game, stating, “That was an outstanding performance. We maintained our focus from start to finish and are thrilled to have delivered such a result. It’s incredibly relieving.”

This marks the 21st time Germany has qualified for the World Cup, trailing only Brazil, who has qualified 23 times. However, Germany has struggled to replicate the success of their 2014 campaign, facing unexpected eliminations in both 2018 and 2022. Consequently, significant pressure now rests on Nagelsmann and his squad to defy expectations and avoid a third consecutive early exit.
