Few have faced as many challenges establishing themselves at their dream club as Sergio Carreira has at Celta. The young left-back has become a pivotal player for coach Claudio Giráldez, showcasing his determination, belief, and hard work, which have led to his exponential growth.

Carreira made his debut with the first team on December 20, 2019, in the Copa del Rey against Peña Azagresa, when he was just 19 years old. His first appearance in La Liga occurred on October 17, 2020, against Atlético Madrid, where he started the match. It was coach Óscar García who provided him with this opportunity.

During his two seasons with the reserve team, he participated in six matches with the first team, scoring once. Subsequently, he experienced three loan spells at Mirandés, Villarreal B, and Elche in the Segunda División before fully integrating into Celta’s first team last season.

Under the guidance of Claudio Giráldez, Carreira played a total of 27 official matches, establishing himself as a regular starter since the Christmas break. In the summer, he renewed his contract, turning down more lucrative offers to sign for four more years with the club he holds dear. He was living out a childhood dream and was determined not to let it slip away.

This season, the academy graduate ranks as the sixth player on the team in terms of minutes played. He has started in ten matches, scoring one goal and providing one assist. Carreira has proven to be a crucial player for Claudio Giráldez and continues to thrive at the club he has always wanted to be part of.
