Ronaldo Attends Diplomatic Gala Amid World Cup PreparationsRonaldo Attends Diplomatic Gala Amid World Cup Preparations

Cristiano Ronaldo graced a prestigious gala event, attended by numerous global business and technology leaders, including Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and X. The black-tie gathering was designed to foster stronger ties between the United States and Saudi Arabia, marking Ronaldo’s first visit to American soil since 2016. His presence with the Saudi delegation underscores his position as a prominent ambassador for the kingdom’s recent investments in diplomacy and sports.

Former President Donald Trump commenced the dinner with a speech, acknowledging the impressive assembly of dignitaries, including FIFA President Gianni Infantino, numerous billionaires, and influential business executives.

Next year, the United States will co-host the World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico, and Portugal recently qualified for the tournament without Ronaldo, who missed the final game against Armenia due to suspension after receiving his first international red card during a qualifier against the Republic of Ireland. Nevertheless, Trump honored Ronaldo with a special mention during his address.

Trump shared, “You know, my son is a big fan of Ronaldo, wherever he is. Barron got to meet him, and I think he respects his father a little more now because I introduced them. I just want to thank you both for being here. It’s truly an honor.”

Recently, Ronaldo connected with Trump by sending a signed jersey inscribed with, “To President Donald J. Trump, Playing for Peace.” The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star expressed, “He is one of the individuals who can help change the world. The U.S. President is one of the most significant figures. If we can collaborate to make this happen… He is someone I aspire to meet for a meaningful conversation, whether here or in the U.S. I know he was in Saudi Arabia with our leader, MBS; I hope to meet him one day.”

Ronaldo was among the first to congratulate the Portuguese national team on their World Cup qualification after witnessing his teammates achieve a nine-goal victory against Armenia. As the tournament approaches next June, concerns arise regarding Ronaldo’s availability for Portugal’s opening match due to the remaining two games of his suspension for elbowing an opponent. However, an appeal is reportedly in preparation.

Portugal’s coach, Roberto Martinez, reflected on the situation, stating, “After the game, it’s a challenging time as emotions can cloud judgment. I witnessed his response to provocation, which began early in the game and continued in the penalty area. It even started the day before in the press conference. His reaction was an attempt to maintain play. Others might have fallen and sought a penalty. It wasn’t a violent act, and it shouldn’t warrant a red card for violence, but rather a response to provocation. We need to present our case effectively and prepare well. It would be very unjust to impose a lengthy suspension.”

Ronaldo has made it abundantly clear that at the age of 41, the 2026 World Cup will be his final international tournament.
