In a significant development during the current international break, Borussia Mönchengladbach has officially appointed Eugen Polanski as their permanent head coach. The 39-year-old coach signed a contract that extends through 2028 on Tuesday. Polanski began his professional career with the Bundesliga club, marking a full-circle moment in his football journey.

After retiring from playing in 2018, the German-born Polish international ascended through the coaching ranks at Gladbach. He spent over three years leading the BMG reserve team before receiving a promotion to coach the first team following the dismissal of Gerardo Seoane in September.

Although Polanski was not initially considered a frontrunner for the permanent position, he captured the attention of the German media by nurturing former BMG II talents, expressing his deep affection for his native Westphalia, and achieving positive results on the pitch.

“We are very pleased that we were able to reach an agreement with Eugen after open, constructive, and appreciative discussions,” remarked Rouven Schröader, the newly appointed sporting director of Gladbach, in a club statement. “He impressed us from the outset with his knowledge and character, and we are confident that under his leadership, we can continue the positive development of recent weeks.”

Polanski expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating, “I have never made a secret of what this job at my home club means to me. Being the head coach at Borussia fills me with immense pleasure and pride. The trust placed in me by the responsible parties serves as both a great incentive and a confirmation of the work done by the entire team.”
