Kobbie Mainoo has only accumulated 138 minutes of playing time in the Premier League this season under manager Amorim, leading to speculation about a possible transfer away from Manchester United during the January transfer window.

A loan move for Mainoo is being discussed, which would enable him to showcase his talents to Thomas Tuchel ahead of the final selections for England’s 2026 World Cup squad in North America. Various clubs, including Serie A champions Napoli and West Ham, have expressed interest, though no formal offers have materialized yet.

Former Arsenal star Stefan Schwarz has suggested that Mainoo would benefit from a move to Arsenal, citing Mikel Arteta as the ideal manager to help him reach his full potential. Schwarz stated, “Arsenal provides the best environment for young players. Mikel Arteta is not hesitant to entrust them with responsibility and opportunities when he believes they are prepared. The club has excelled in preparing young talent over the past few years.”

Additionally, teaming up with England colleague Declan Rice in Arsenal’s midfield could further enhance Mainoo’s development. Schwarz praised Rice’s leadership and versatility, noting, “Declan Rice is an exceptional player. His consistent performance and ability to play in various positions make him invaluable. He possesses an incredible work ethic and is a genuine leader at Arsenal, often taking care of his teammates. His presence in the media also reflects his importance to the club. Losing him to injury would be a significant challenge for Arsenal, though they could manage in the short term due to squad depth.”

Earlier this month, Amorim addressed the limited playing time for Mainoo, explaining, “We need to compete in Europe, which complicates our squad management. If Mainoo were to receive more minutes, I could rotate players more effectively. With one game per week, it is challenging to make substitutions. Our objective remains clear: we must qualify for Europe, and while the top four is a tough target at the moment, our focus must stay on winning every match.”

Mainoo will be eager to play when Manchester United faces Everton in the Premier League this weekend.
