Alberto Moleiro Carving His Own Path at VillarrealAlberto Moleiro Carving His Own Path at Villarreal

omidbasir- This past summer, Alberto Moleiro emerged as a significant asset for both the present and future of Villarreal. While many labeled him as the “new Baena” following the transfer of the Almeriense to Atlético, Moleiro is intent on forging his own path. So far, he has successfully secured a spot in Marcelino’s starting eleven.

On a personal level, Moleiro states, “I feel quite well and comfortable. I believe my footballing level has been improving progressively. Initially, I struggled with the adaptation process as I had never left the island before, but I am making strides and hope to continue improving.”

Discussing the World Cup, he shares, “It’s more of a dream than anything else. Qualifying is incredibly difficult, but the fact that I’m being mentioned in that context indicates I’m doing something right. It’s an honor, yet I understand the challenges ahead.”

Regarding the expectations to fill Baena’s shoes, he asserts, “I never considered that I would replace him. From the outset, I recognized that Baena and I are two distinct footballers. He is an outstanding player, while I possess different characteristics, which can be seen as better or worse depending on one’s perspective. I aim to achieve more.”

Reflecting on his performance, he admits, “I wasn’t even aware that I was the team’s top scorer. It’s not something I focus on. Last year, I scored six goals with Las Palmas, and I aim to surpass that this season, which indicates I’m on an upward trajectory. But right now, my focus is on Saturday’s match.”

On evolving his playing style, he notes, “Yes, I am becoming more vertical and intent on being a threat. In Las Palmas, I concentrated on playing beautifully or for my own enjoyment. However, my understanding of playing well has changed here; I know I need to push forward with the ball.”

Moleiro speaks of his synergy with Gerard, “Both of us currently occupy an intermediate position where the offensive play flows through us. I feel very comfortable in this role, and I believe I can create damage by receiving the ball there and advancing. I am still hungry for more. I refuse to relax and believe I have a lot more to give, and I hope to demonstrate that.”

As for the league situation, he explains, “We focus solely on ourselves. This Saturday, we have an important league match where we aim to secure three points to keep moving forward. We do not concern ourselves with other rivals.”

Looking ahead to the calendar until December, he remarks, “The team is in good spirits and well-prepared for Saturday’s match. Once the Saturday game is behind us, we will begin discussing what comes next. We understand the importance of our upcoming fixtures, but the immediate focus is on Mallorca.”

Commenting on his adjustment to Villarreal, he adds, “Villarreal is a very family-oriented club, and since my arrival, everything has been made easy for me. I feel at home. I’m very happy to be here. Cardona and Ayoze helped me integrate and get to know my teammates better.”

On the upcoming match against Mallorca, he states, “Mallorca is a challenging opponent who will make things difficult for us. We need to counter their strengths with our football, being aware of our capabilities in counter-attacks. We must concentrate solely on Mallorca.”

Regarding the Dortmund match, he emphasizes, “Honestly, we don’t even talk about the Tuesday match in our daily routines. We are simply preparing for Saturday’s game. The preparations for Tuesday will commence after Saturday’s match. That’s the right approach.”

Lastly, he reflects on the team’s unity and lethal counter-attacking strategy, saying, “We are a tightly-knit group that understands our strengths and utilizes them effectively. At home, we are strong, and our supporters give us tremendous support. Our counter-attack is one of our key strengths, and we all share this understanding, which naturally translates onto the pitch.”
