According to a recent report from the BBC, goalkeeper Jorgensen has been informed by the Denmark national team of a possible opportunity to start for his country in the upcoming World Cup.

The report indicates that the competition for the No. 1 jersey is now open, particularly after veteran goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel allowed six goals in two matches against Belarus and Scotland, resulting in Brian Riemer’s team finishing second in Group C and missing automatic qualification.

In a thrilling encounter at Hampden Park, Kieran Tierney and Kenny McLean scored late to lead Scotland to a 4-2 victory over Denmark, securing their place in the World Cup for the first time in 28 years. Consequently, Denmark will need to navigate the European playoffs, set to commence in March, to secure their spot in the tournament to be hosted in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Despite being informed of his potential to replace Schmeichel, Jorgensen’s path is complicated by his current lack of Premier League experience this season. The Chelsea goalkeeper has yet to start a league match under Enzo Maresca, having made only one appearance as a substitute during a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on September 20, following first-choice goalkeeper Robert Sanchez’s red card.

Jorgensen has, however, started twice in the Carabao Cup this season and played from the outset in Chelsea’s commanding 5-1 victory over Ajax in the Champions League on October 22.

As he considers his future, it remains uncertain whether Jorgensen will seek a loan move in January to enhance his chances of securing a starting position for Denmark. The report suggests that such a departure could impact Chelsea, who are keen to maintain their goalkeeping depth.

Chelsea will resume Premier League action this weekend after the international break, facing Scott Parker’s Burnley on Saturday lunchtime, with the aim of extending their unbeaten streak to five games. The west London club currently sits third in the league, trailing leaders Arsenal by six points.
