In a development that has now been officially confirmed, Borussia Mönchengladbach has appointed Eugen Polanski as their permanent head coach. The 39-year-old has signed a contract that extends until 2028. Polanski, who began his playing career with the Bundesliga club, has made a significant return to the organization.

After retiring from professional football in 2018, the Polish international, who was raised in Germany, ascended through the coaching ranks at Gladbach. He spent over three years coaching the BMG reserve team before being elevated to the role of head coach for the first team following the dismissal of Gerardo Seoane in September.

Initially, few viewed Polanski as a likely candidate for the permanent position. However, he gradually won over the German media through his efforts to promote former BMG II prospects, expressing his deep affection for his native Westphalia, and ultimately achieving positive results on the field.

Rouven Schröader, the newly appointed sporting director of Gladbach, expressed satisfaction with the agreement reached with Polanski, stating, “We are very pleased that we were able to reach an agreement with Eugen in open, constructive, and appreciative discussions. He impressed us from the outset with his knowledge and character, and we are confident that with him as head coach, we can continue the positive development of recent weeks.”

Polanski himself conveyed his enthusiasm for the role, stating, “I have never made a secret of what this job at my home club means to me. Being head coach at Borussia gives me immense pleasure and fills me with pride. The trust placed in me by those responsible is a great incentive and confirmation of the work done by the entire team.”
