Valencia’s Stole Dimitrievski Faces Financial Penalty After Controversial Interview

omidbasir- Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski is set to face a financial penalty after he publicly apologized to coach Carlos Corberán and his teammates for his controversial remarks made during an interview in Macedonia.

The coach confirmed that this action effectively closes the matter following the uproar caused by Dimitrievski’s comments regarding a lack of competition within the team due to the loan agreement he has with Athletic Club.

“I spoke with Dimitrievski individually, and then we had a conversation with the entire squad. The player has apologized because his statements were erroneous and incorrect. As I mentioned, no one plays or is left out of the lineup due to contractual obligations. This is the case in Valencia. He is aware of this, has apologized to the team, and to the staff. I adhere to the internal regulations, and he will face the appropriate financial sanction. With his apologies, I consider the matter regarding Dimitrievski closed,” the coach stated in a press conference prior to the Valencia-Levante derby.

Dimitrievski’s situation at Valencia has not been ideal since his arrival at Mestalla in the summer of 2024. The Macedonian goalkeeper came with expectations of becoming the first-choice keeper following the potential departure of Mamardashvili. However, even a year later, with the Georgian player at Liverpool, the loan of Julen Agirrezabala has once again relegated him to a secondary role.

During the recent international break, Dimitrievski gave an interview in his home country where he criticized the situation in goal, claiming there was no real competition because the contract of the Basque goalkeeper includes financial penalties for Valencia in the event of non-participation. “He must play, no matter what,” he asserted, maintaining that such a clause diminishes his chances of competing for the starting position.

These statements caused significant turmoil within the club, not only for the contractual details mentioned but also for questioning the merit-based nature of technical decisions and directly implicating both Carlos Corberán and a fellow teammate. Furthermore, Dimitrievski revealed that he lost out on €300,000 last season when he was benched for the final match of the season, a game that had no bearing on the team’s standings.
