The 22-year-old striker has rapidly caught the attention of European football since joining Levante in August. He is under contract until 2029, with a €30 million (£26m/$34m) release clause, and is viewed by Barcelona as a prospective long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski once the Polish striker’s contract expires next summer.

Brys, the coach of the Cameroon national team who awarded Eyong his senior debut, has praised the striker’s attitude and impact. Despite Levante’s struggles near the bottom of La Liga, Eyong has displayed flashes of the talent that has drawn interest from elite clubs such as Chelsea, Arsenal, Real Madrid, and Manchester United. His contract also has intricate clauses involving Villarreal, which could complicate any potential negotiations.

Brys noted not only Eyong’s talent but also his professionalism and team-oriented mentality during an interview with Mundo Deportivo. He emphasized that these qualities are significant contributors to the striker’s swift ascent in both club and international football.

“He’s a very good player: modest and humble, which is a rare gift,” Brys stated. “He’s not an egocentric striker; he plays for the team. I appreciate his work ethic; he draws attention so that others can exploit the space. He performed well in our game together, even without scoring, and was a valuable addition to the squad. He possesses a good heart, is polite, and exhibits no negativity. That’s what makes him special.”

“He must continue to develop and integrate further, but he has the potential to score many goals. Although he hasn’t reached his full capacity yet, we hope to continue working with him as he can grow tremendously.”

When asked whether Eyong has the qualities to play for Barcelona, Brys expressed confidence in his capabilities. He drew comparisons to Lamine Yamal, illustrating how young players with the right mindset and talent can quickly become pivotal figures at top clubs.

“I believe so, considering his potential. There’s always room for a new talent in a team if they possess the right attributes. Look at Lamine Yamal: just a year ago, no one expected him to be in the first team, and now he’s a crucial player. Eyong has similar potential. He’s dangerous, unpredictable, and capable of surprising anyone, which is invaluable for any top team.”

Barcelona views Eyong as more than just a future replacement for Lewandowski. His work ethic, versatility, and ability to create opportunities for teammates make him an appealing long-term prospect. Meanwhile, other clubs are monitoring his progress; however, Levante is adamant that he will remain in Spain for the season to assist in their fight against relegation.

As the 2025-26 season progresses, all eyes will be on Eyong’s development at Levante. Although CSKA Moscow has already submitted an offer that was swiftly rejected, the Cameroonian striker’s aspiration remains to join Barcelona, the club he has supported since childhood.

Negotiations regarding Eyong will necessitate careful consideration of both Levante and Villarreal’s financial interests due to existing sell-on clauses and matching rights. Any potential deal will likely be structured around these conditions to ensure all parties are fairly compensated. For the moment, Eyong’s focus is on delivering consistent performances, aiding Levante in their battle for La Liga survival, and positioning himself for a high-profile transfer next summer.
