Monterrey Initiates Contract Extension Talks with Sergio RamosMonterrey Initiates Contract Extension Talks with Sergio Ramos

Monterrey is currently engaged in negotiations to extend Sergio Ramos’ contract, which is set to expire at the end of this year.

The seasoned Spanish centre-back joined the Liga MX club in February and has made a notable impact, scoring two goals in 15 league appearances.

When asked about the possibility of Ramos, who serves as the team captain, signing a contract extension, Monterrey’s president, José Antonio Noriega, confirmed to reporters, “Yes, of course, there are talks; that’s normal.”

He added, “I wouldn’t want to go into details because it distracts us from what’s most important right now: how the team is going to perform against a challenging opponent like América.”

Monterrey is preparing for their Apertura quarterfinal first leg against América on November 26.

Ramos, who will celebrate his 40th birthday on March 30, 2026, has previously stated his desire to continue with Monterrey.

“It’s true that my contract ends in December, but I hope we can continue here because we are very happy and comfortable,” Ramos mentioned last month.

He expressed his appreciation for Mexico, stating, “Mexico is a country that treats me wonderfully, and Rayados [Monterrey] is a club with a very interesting project.”

A World Cup winner in 2010 and a two-time European Champion with Spain, Ramos spent 16 years at Real Madrid, where he won four Champions League titles and five La Liga championships before departing as a free agent in 2021.
