AS FAR has secured an opportunity to qualify for the inaugural FIFA Women’s Champions Cup next year.

The Moroccan club triumphed over debutants ASEC Mimosas, winning the African Women’s Champions League final 2-1 and claiming the continental title for the second time.

Hanane Ait El Haj opened the scoring for AS FAR with a penalty in the 13th minute after Safa Banouk was fouled by Aboa Yapo.

Following the break, ASEC Mimosas fought back, with Ami Priscal Diallo equalizing through a well-placed header from a cross by Sopie Brou just ten minutes into the second half.

However, AS FAR was awarded a second penalty in the closing minutes of the match when Noura Diarra fouled Sofia Bouftini. Zineb Redouani confidently converted the penalty in the 85th minute, restoring AS FAR’s lead.

Asastasie Gbehi nearly forced extra time but missed her chance, shooting wide in stoppage time. Following the final whistle, she received a red card for dissent.

With this victory, AS FAR joins South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns as two-time winners of the title, having previously secured the trophy in 2022.

The Rabat-based team is set to face China’s Wuhan Jiangda on December 14 for a chance to qualify for next year’s FIFA Women’s Champions Cup. The winner of that match will advance to meet European champions Arsenal in the semi-finals of the inaugural competition early next year in London.
