Pulisic Highlights Importance of Milan’s Derby Victory

Christian Pulisic netted the decisive goal for AC Milan in the second half of their recent derby match, while goalkeeper Mike Maignan made six crucial saves throughout the game.

In his post-match comments, Pulisic emphasized the profound significance of this victory, stating it “means everything” for the team. Although he acknowledged not being at full match fitness after recovering from an injury, he credited hard work and determination for his impactful contribution during the match. He framed his goal as a testament to his efforts and a morale booster for the squad.

“It means everything, honestly, just the result today,” Pulisic conveyed in his interview with CBS Sports. “It places us in a favorable position, and I’m truly happy to return after facing some challenging moments over the past month and to help the team secure the win.”

“I believe I can still improve further,” he continued. “I don’t feel 100 percent sharp after my injury and time away, but this demonstrates our resilience. I work diligently, and I’m grateful that moments like today can occur; it means a lot to me.”

Pulisic also lauded his teammates for their determination in the final stages of the match, commending Milan’s defensive solidity and team cohesion. He highlighted their ability to maintain their lead during the last half hour as a reflection of their strong collective mentality, noting that confidence gained from such victories can propel them through the season. He also acknowledged that there is still room for him to enhance his performances.

“Honestly, the way this team has persevered, even when we are ahead, is commendable. You can see in the last 30 minutes how we defended,” Pulisic explained. “We possess remarkable team spirit, and our resolve is incredible regardless of the circumstances. We’ve faced adversity, made comebacks, taken leads, and defended them successfully. We’ve managed to maintain control in games, and we feel confident moving forward.”

With Milan now just two points behind Serie A leaders Roma, Pulisic stressed that the club has higher aspirations.

“For us, we’re not merely focused on our position at the top of the table throughout the season. When it matters, we need to be there, so we take it game by game,” he stated. “Significant performances like this against formidable opponents are crucial for us. It sends a message to the rest of the league, but we must continue to strive for consistency.”

Pulisic also reserved special praise for Maignan, who delivered an outstanding performance as AC Milan’s goalkeeper.

“Honestly, it was one of the best goalkeeper performances I’ve witnessed in my career, truly, beyond just the penalty save,” he remarked. “He made key saves in the first half and consistently kept us in the game. It was an exceptional display.”

The Rossoneri’s next challenge will be against Lazio in Serie A on November 29, followed by a rematch in the Round of 16 of the Coppa Italia on December 4.
