Antony Apologizes to Betis Fans Following Red Card IncidentAntony Apologizes to Betis Fans Following Red Card Incident

Real Betis winger Antony has issued an apology to the club’s supporters after being sent off for inadvertently kicking an opponent in the face during Sunday’s LaLiga match against Girona.

The incident occurred in the 87th minute with the score tied at 1-1. Antony attempted an overhead kick to control the ball within Girona’s penalty area, but his foot missed the ball and struck the face of rival Joel Roca.

Following a VAR review, referee Iosu Galech Apezteguía rescinded the initial yellow card and issued a straight red card instead.

As he exited the pitch, Antony gestured apologetically towards the Betis fans. Although Betis managed to secure a draw, the Brazilian international will be unavailable for the upcoming league derby against Sevilla.

In a message on Instagram, Antony expressed his sorrow: “I am very sad about the red card. All I wanted was to help my team win. It was a completely unintentional move… I apologize to all the fans who have always supported me.”

Since his permanent transfer from Manchester United to Betis in September, Antony has made a significant impact, scoring six goals in 12 appearances across all competitions.

Antony previously displayed strong performances while on loan at Betis during the latter half of last season, securing a regular position in Manuel Pellegrini’s starting lineup.

Currently sitting fifth in LaLiga, Betis is set to host FC Utrecht for the Europa League on Thursday, before facing Sevilla at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán this weekend.
