Chelsea’s Enzo Maresca Provides Update on Cole Palmer’s Injury and Estêvão’s Potential

omidbasir- Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has indicated that Cole Palmer may return to action sooner than anticipated; however, he still expects the talented playmaker to miss the upcoming Premier League match against Arsenal.

Palmer, who was on the verge of full fitness after suffering a groin injury in September, faced an unexpected setback last week when he fractured his toe in an unusual home incident. As a result, the 23-year-old was ruled out of Tuesday’s Champions League fixture against Barcelona and the subsequent match against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge. Despite this, Maresca remains hopeful about Palmer’s recovery, particularly after the club developed a specially-adapted boot to facilitate his healing process.

“We don’t know exactly when he will return, but it should be soon,” Maresca stated during a news conference on Monday. “He is already on the pitch, touching the ball, and the feedback is positive.

“Our focus is on tomorrow’s Champions League game, after which we will start considering Arsenal.” When asked directly if Palmer might be available for the Gunners clash, Maresca replied, “I don’t think so at this moment.”

In Palmer’s absence, one player eager to make an impact against Barcelona is Estêvão. The Brazilian teenager has drawn comparisons to Spanish winger Lamine Yamal following his promising start at Chelsea; however, Maresca sought to temper those comparisons.

“There is no doubt that he will become an important player for this club,” Maresca commented. “The key for Estêvão is to enjoy his journey, to be happy, and to focus on self-improvement rather than competing with others. If he continues to put in the effort, he will undoubtedly develop into a top player for us.

“Estêvão is already performing at a high level, being part of Brazil’s starting eleven. While he is still young and has room for improvement, we are very pleased with his progress.

“For me, it is similar to what I said about Pedri; watching talents like Estêvão, Lamine Yamal, and Pedri is a joy for football fans. We are thrilled to have Estêvão with us, and I am confident he will excel.”
