Antony Apologizes to Fans Following Red Card IncidentAntony Apologizes to Fans Following Red Card Incident

omidbasir- Real Betis winger Antony has issued an apology to the club’s supporters after being sent off for inadvertently kicking an opponent in the face during Sunday’s LaLiga draw against Girona.

In the 87th minute, with the score tied at 1-1, Antony attempted to control a ball within Girona’s penalty area using an overhead kick. Unfortunately, his foot missed the ball and struck rival player Joel Roca instead.

Following a VAR review, referee Iosu Galech Apezteguía reversed the initial yellow card issued to Antony and upgraded it to a straight red card.

As he exited the pitch, Antony gestured his apologies towards the Betis fans. Although Betis managed to secure a draw, the suspension means the Brazil international will be unavailable for this Sunday’s league derby against Sevilla.

Antony, 25, took to Instagram to express his feelings: “I am very sad about the red card. All I wanted was to help my team win. It was a completely unintentional move… I apologize to all the fans who have always supported me.”

Since joining Betis on a permanent basis from Manchester United in September, Antony has scored six goals in 12 appearances across all competitions.

The Brazilian had previously impressed while on loan at Betis during the latter half of last season, eventually securing a regular spot in Manuel Pellegrini’s starting lineup.

Currently sitting fifth in LaLiga, Betis will host FC Utrecht in the Europa League on Thursday before facing Sevilla at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán this weekend.
