Consequences Loom for Mainz Defender Dominik Kohr Following Controversial Sending OffConsequences Loom for Mainz Defender Dominik Kohr Following Controversial Sending Off

omidbasir- Mainz defender Dominik Kohr’s recent sending off has placed the 31-year-old in jeopardy of facing significant repercussions. According to Kicker, the German Football Association (DFB) is contemplating a suspension of up to four matches for Kohr, who holds the Bundesliga record for the most send-offs in the league’s history. If the maximum penalty is enforced, Kohr’s calendar year 2025 could be effectively over.

Despite Kohr’s attempts to express remorse on social media for his dangerous challenge against Hoffenheim attacker Max Moerstedt, this may prove insufficient for the DFB’s disciplinary committee. The responsible German court has expressed frustration with repeated incidents involving Kohr. A final decision regarding his case is anticipated today.

Kohr’s apology, along with support from teammates who argue he is not the ‘Bundesliga Bully’ that many portray him to be, is unlikely to influence the DFB’s ruling. The Trier-native’s history of reckless challenges necessitates appropriate action. Statements from Kohr and his teammate Danny da Costa may not mitigate the severity of the situation.

“You keep reading articles in which he is described as the ‘bully of the league’,” Da Costa remarked to Sky Germany on Friday night. “I’ve known and played with him long enough to say that this is not fair to him. He has an aggressive playing style, but there are many other players who occasionally go too far. The tackle on Moerstedt was not intentional.”

In a direct message to Moerstedt, Kohr stated on Instagram, “It’s important to me to address you directly today, and especially you, Max Moerstedt. In my mind, I just wanted to prevent a pass. When I saw the TV images, I was shocked myself. It could have turned out differently. I’m relieved and glad that nothing more happened to you and that you were able to continue playing.

“I also apologize to the Mainz fans whom I serve and for whom I always want to give my all,” Kohr added. “I want to throw myself into every tackle for you, but I want to reassure you once again that I never want to hurt anyone on purpose.”
