Assan Ou draogo Shines Bright for RB LeipzigAssan Ou draogo Shines Bright for RB Leipzig

omidbasir- Assan Ouédraogo’s season with RB Leipzig has exceeded all expectations. The 19-year-old made a remarkable entrance onto the international stage by scoring just two minutes into his debut for the German national team at the home ground of his Bundesliga club. Later that evening, he returned to the Red Bull Arena, where he scored a spectacular game-winning goal against Werder Bremen.

However, in Ouédraogo’s view, this goal did not rank as the best he has ever scored. Following the match, he reminisced about his time in the DFB youth ranks during his post-match interview. “I’ve scored two better ones,” Ouédraogo stated to DAZN. “One was during the U-19 European Championship, where I executed a drop kick into the corner, and the other in the U-15s, from a direct kickoff. This one was a bit lucky. I strive to play my game, and while things are going well for me right now, I acknowledge that luck plays a role too.”

“It’s been a perfect week,” he continued. “Two goals, two wins, and two clean sheets. It doesn’t get better than this.”

Ouédraogo’s impressive trajectory mirrors the narrative of his club this season. After a challenging start, which included a 6-0 defeat to FC Bayern Munich, newly appointed head coach Ole Werner has seen his team improve significantly.

Austrian midfielder Christoph Baumgartner, who assisted Leipzig’s second goal, has also found his form during this period. In his remarks post-match, Baumgartner expressed his happiness for Ouédraogo, acknowledging his difficult first year. “He’s currently on a high, inspired by the national team and his goals,” Baumgartner said. “This success is no coincidence. He is a talented individual who works hard, believes in himself, and is fit. That goal showcased pure quality.”

Coach Ole Werner added, “It’s special to work with young players who have such performances. You see their development in training and matches, which brings a lot of joy. Assan has progressed remarkably and hasn’t yet reached his full potential.”
