omidbasir- Real Betis winger Antony has publicly apologized to the club’s supporters following his red card incident during the LaLiga match against Girona on Sunday.

In the 87th minute, with the score tied at 1-1, Antony attempted an overhead kick to control the ball within Girona’s penalty area. However, his foot inadvertently struck the face of opposing player Joel Roca instead of making contact with the ball.

After a VAR review, referee Iosu Galech Apezteguía upgraded Antony’s initial yellow card to a straight red card. As he exited the field, Antony made gestures of apology towards Betis fans.

Despite being reduced to ten men, Betis managed to secure a draw, but Antony’s dismissal will prevent him from participating in the upcoming derby against Sevilla.

The 25-year-old took to Instagram to express his regret, stating, “I am very sad about the red card. All I wanted was to help my team win. It was a completely unintentional move… I apologize to all the fans who have always supported me.”

Since transferring permanently from Manchester United in September, Antony has made a significant impact, scoring six goals in 12 appearances across all competitions. He had previously impressed during his loan spell with Betis last season, earning a place in Manuel Pellegrini’s starting lineup.

Currently sitting fifth in LaLiga, Betis will host FC Utrecht in the Europa League on Thursday before facing Sevilla at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán this weekend.
