omidbasir- Real Betis winger Antony has issued an apology to the club’s fans following his dismissal during a LaLiga match against Girona on Sunday. The incident occurred in the 87th minute when the score was tied at 1-1. Antony attempted an overhead kick to control the ball within Girona’s penalty area; however, he inadvertently struck the face of Joel Roca, a player from the opposing team.

After reviewing the play with VAR, referee Iosu Galech Apezteguía changed the initial yellow card issued to Antony to a straight red card. As he exited the pitch, Antony made gestures of apology towards the Betis supporters.

Despite being reduced to ten men, Betis managed to secure a draw. However, Antony’s suspension means he will miss the crucial league derby against Sevilla this coming Sunday.

In a heartfelt message on Instagram, the 25-year-old expressed his disappointment: “I am very sad about the red card. All I wanted was to help my team win. It was a completely unintentional move… I apologize to all the fans who have always supported me.”

Since joining Betis on a permanent basis from Manchester United in September, Antony has made a significant impact, scoring six goals in twelve appearances across all competitions. He previously excelled during his loan spell at the club last season and has since become a key player in Manuel Pellegrini’s starting lineup.

Currently sitting fifth in LaLiga, Betis will host FC Utrecht in the Europa League on Thursday before facing Sevilla at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán this weekend.
