omidbasir- Real Betis winger Antony has issued an apology to the club’s supporters following his red card for an accidental foul in Sunday’s LaLiga match against Girona.

In the 87th minute, with the score tied at 1-1, Antony attempted an overhead kick to control the ball within Girona’s penalty area. However, the former Manchester United player inadvertently struck opponent Joel Roca in the face instead of the ball.

After a VAR review, referee Iosu Galech Apezteguía upgraded Antony’s initial yellow card to a straight red card.

As he exited the pitch, Antony made gestures of remorse towards the Betis fans. Despite the incident, Betis managed to secure a draw, but the red card means the Brazilian international will miss the crucial league derby against Sevilla this Sunday.

Antony, 25, expressed his feelings on Instagram: “I am very sad about the red card. All I wanted was to help my team win. It was a completely unintentional action… I apologize to all the fans who have always supported me.”

Since joining Betis on a permanent transfer from Manchester United in September, Antony has made a significant impact, scoring six goals in 12 appearances across all competitions.

Antony’s performance during his loan stint last season earned him a regular place in Manuel Pellegrini’s starting lineup. Currently, Betis sits fifth in LaLiga and will face FC Utrecht in the Europa League on Thursday before the highly anticipated derby at Sevilla’s Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán this weekend.
