omidbasir- Real Betis winger Antony has issued an apology to the club’s supporters following his red card incident during Sunday’s LaLiga match against Girona.

In the 87th minute, with the match tied at 1-1, Antony attempted to execute an overhead kick within Girona’s penalty area. Unfortunately, his boot inadvertently struck the face of rival player Joel Roca instead of the ball.

After a review by VAR, referee Iosu Galech Apezteguía revised the initial yellow card to a straight red, leading to Antony’s dismissal from the game. As he exited the pitch, he gestured his remorse towards the Betis fans.

Despite the setback, Betis managed to secure a draw, but the red card means that the Brazilian international will miss the upcoming league derby against Sevilla.

Antony, 25, took to Instagram to express his disappointment: “I am very sad about the red card. All I wanted was to help my team win. It was a completely unintentional move… I apologize to all the fans who have always supported me.”

Since joining Betis on a permanent transfer from Manchester United in September, Antony has made a significant impact, scoring six goals in 12 appearances across all competitions.

The Brazilian had already garnered attention during his loan at Betis last season, establishing himself as a key player in manager Manuel Pellegrini’s starting lineup.

Currently positioned fifth in LaLiga, Betis will face FC Utrecht in the Europa League this Thursday before their crucial derby at Sevilla’s Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán stadium this weekend.
