omidbasir- Amid a summer of player exits from Eintracht Frankfurt, the future of former German international Mahmoud Dahoud seemed precarious. His move to Brighton in the summer of 2023 did not yield the desired results, leaving him with little to celebrate since his transfer.

The midfielder, who previously played for Borussia Mönchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund, struggled to make an impact at Brighton, ultimately being loaned back to VfB Stuttgart during the latter half of the 2023/24 season. Despite a goal off the bench, Dahoud started only once under head coach Sebastian Hoeneß.

Following the termination of his contract with Brighton, Dahoud joined Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer in the summer of 2024. In an emotional press conference, he announced his decision to switch his national allegiance back to Germany after a challenging spell representing Syria.

Under Eintracht head coach Dino Toppmöller, Dahoud began to receive consistent playing time. Both Toppmöller and sporting director Markus Krösche praised him for his outstanding performance in a starting role against VfL Bochum on matchday nine, where he scored and assisted a goal, indicating a potential resurgence.

However, this promising performance proved to be misleading, as Dahoud made only two more league starts following that match and participated in just three brief substitute appearances throughout the 2025 calendar year. After being cleared for departure and struggling to impact training, he was included in only one of Toppmöller’s initial seven matchday squads this season.

In an unexpected turn, Dahoud emerged as a starting midfielder against Mainz on matchday 10 and continued to start against Köln, where he performed well, scoring his 14th career Bundesliga goal. Bundesliga reporters are experiencing a sense of déjà vu as Dahoud’s situation appears to echo past challenges.

In a parallel to previous praise, Krösche and Toppmöller once again lauded Dahoud’s commitment and performance. “He deserves it because he has simply kept at it over the last few months and has always been there for the whole group, despite his difficult situation,” Toppmöller stated in an interview with Sport Bild.

Krösche added, “He’s had bad spells in his career before and has learned to deal with them. I think that helps him a lot. He’s always given his all and made himself available. Now he’s been given his chance.”

It appears that Dahoud is set to receive more opportunities to prove his worth at Eintracht Frankfurt.
