Dominik Kohr Faces Potential Suspension After Controversial Challenge

According to reports from Kicker, the German Football Association (DFB) is contemplating a suspension of up to four matches for Kohr, who holds the record for the most sendings-off in Bundesliga history. Should the maximum penalty be enforced, Kohr’s 2025 season may come to an early end.

Despite Kohr’s efforts to express remorse through social media following his dangerous tackle on Hoffenheim forward Max Moerstedt, it may be perceived as insufficient by the DFB’s disciplinary committee. This committee is reportedly exasperated with the frequency of incidents involving Kohr, with a final ruling anticipated soon.

Kohr’s apology, along with support from teammates asserting that he is not the ‘Bundesliga Bully’ he is often portrayed as, is unlikely to influence the DFB’s decision. The Trier-native’s ongoing history of reckless challenges necessitates action from the authorities. Comments from Kohr and teammates like Danny da Costa are not expected to mitigate the situation.

While he possesses an aggressive playing style, many players occasionally exceed their limits. The challenge on Moerstedt was not intentional.”

In his Instagram message on Saturday, Kohr addressed both Moerstedt and Mainz fans directly. “I want to express my sincere regret, especially to you, Max Moerstedt. My intention was solely to intercept a pass. I was shocked when I saw the television footage; it could have resulted in serious consequences. I am relieved and glad that you were not more severely injured and could continue playing.”

Kohr continued, “I also extend my apologies to the Mainz fans, whom I am dedicated to serving wholeheartedly. While I always aim to give my all in every tackle, I assure you that I never wish to harm anyone intentionally.”
