Goals from Assan Ouédraogo and Xaver Schlager propelled RB Leipzig to a 2-0 victory against Werder Bremen, allowing the Red Bulls to reclaim second place in the Bundesliga.

The match commenced with an intense 20 minutes during which both teams displayed significant attacking urgency. Antonio Nusa forced a strong save from Bremen’s goalkeeper Mio Backhaus, and David Raum’s free-kick narrowly missed the target. Senne Lynen also had a close call, his volley going just wide after a well-placed pass from Romano Schmid.

Leipzig soon began to assert dominance, limiting Bremen’s possession effectively. A notable opportunity arose in the 25th minute when Ridle Baku received the ball on the right side of the box, but his shot went wide, surprising him given the space he had.

Five minutes later, Ouédraogo tested Backhaus with a powerful shot from 25 yards. Shortly thereafter, he struck again, resulting in a series of corners for Leipzig culminating in a decent chance for Christoph Baumgartner, whose shot was directed straight at Backhaus.

Backhaus continued to impress with a stunning save just before halftime, deflecting Baumgartner’s strike that looked destined for the far post.

Following the break, Werder Bremen emerged with renewed energy. Schmid forced a good save from Péter Gulácsi within minutes, and the resulting corner found Keke Topp, whose header struck the side netting. Cameron Puertas then tested Gulácsi again with a firm shot.

Leipzig regained their composure around the hour mark but faced a scare when Jens Stage broke through on a counter-attack, only for Yan Diomande to thwart him with a timely tackle. Baumgartner was then denied a goal by Marco Grüll, who cleared off the line.

The breakthrough came when Ouédraogo unleashed a stunning strike with his weaker left foot from 20 yards, placing the ball into the top-left corner beyond Backhaus’s reach. Ten minutes before the final whistle, Leipzig doubled their lead as Baumgartner headed the ball towards substitute Schlager, who skillfully turned and fired it into the bottom corner.

Despite Leipzig’s 2-0 advantage, Bremen fought valiantly to stage a comeback, but the score reflected a hard-earned win for Leipzig, which belied the competitive nature of the match. Bremen missed several significant opportunities that could have altered the game’s course.
