Assan Ou draogo Shines with Debut and Game Winning Goal for RB LeipzigAssan Ou draogo Shines with Debut and Game Winning Goal for RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig midfielder Assan Ouédraogo is enjoying an outstanding season, surpassing expectations at every turn. The 19-year-old made headlines by scoring just two minutes into his debut for the German national team on Tuesday, notably at the very stadium of his Bundesliga club. In last night’s match against Werder Bremen, he showcased his talent once more, netting a stunning goal that secured a 1-0 victory for RB Leipzig.

However, Ouédraogo believes that his latest goal may not rank as the finest of his burgeoning career. In a post-match interview, he reflected on his time in the DFB youth ranks, recalling moments that stood out even more. “I’ve scored two better ones,” he revealed to DAZN. “One was in the U-19 European Championship with a drop kick into the corner, and the other was in the U-15s where I scored directly from the kickoff. This one was a bit lucky. I’m focused on playing my game, and while I feel things are going well, a bit of luck certainly helps.”

He expressed his satisfaction with the week, exclaiming, “It’s been a perfect week—two goals, two wins, and two clean sheets. It doesn’t get any better than this.”

Ouédraogo’s redemption story aligns seamlessly with the narrative of his club this season. Following a disheartening 6-0 defeat to FC Bayern Munich on opening night, new head coach Ole Werner initially seemed overwhelmed. Nevertheless, the team has turned around its fortunes, and key players like Austrian midfielder Christoph Baumgartner, who provided an assist for Leipzig’s second goal, have shone brightly.

Both Baumgartner and Werner acknowledged Ouédraogo’s impressive form in their respective post-match comments. “I’m very happy for him because he had a difficult time in his first year,” Baumgartner noted in the mixed zone. “He’s currently riding high, inspired by his national team appearances and goals. But that success is not coincidental; he is a dedicated player who has developed self-belief and fitness. That goal was a true display of his quality.”

“It’s special to work with young talents who perform like this,” Werner added. “You can see their progress every day in training and matches, which is incredibly rewarding. Assan has developed remarkably, and he is certainly not at the peak of his potential yet.”
