Luis Suárez, forward for Inter Miami CF, has been suspended for one match, missing the final game of the Round 1 MLS playoff best-of-three series against Nashville SC. This suspension results from an incident in the second half of the match on November 1 at Geodis Park, where Suárez kicked Andy Nájar of Nashville, contributing to Inter Miami’s 2-1 defeat. Notably, the referee did not issue any cards during the match. The MLS Disciplinary Committee announced the suspension and an undisclosed fine for Suárez under Parameter 3 for violent conduct, citing the 71st-minute incident. His suspension will take effect during the upcoming match against Nashville SC on November 8. According to Major League Soccer regulations, disciplinary measures can be enacted postgame when match officials have failed to issue appropriate cards for on-field offenses. This marks Suárez’s second suspension in MLS during 2025; he previously received a three-match ban for spitting on a member of the Seattle Sounders’ staff following the Leagues Cup final on August 31. In response to the suspension, Inter Miami CF stated, “We accept and respect the decision made by the MLS Disciplinary Committee.” However, the club expressed concerns about the precedent of reassessing a play that had already been reviewed by match officials and VAR, emphasizing the expectation for consistent standards in future situations involving all teams. As the playoff series stands at 1-1, Inter Miami will face a pivotal challenge in their quest to advance to the next round without Suárez.
