Goals from Assan Ouédraogo and Xaver Schlager propelled RB Leipzig to a 2-0 victory over Werder Bremen, allowing the Red Bulls to reclaim second place in the Bundesliga.

The match began with a spirited exchange in the opening 20 minutes, as both teams displayed significant attacking intent. Antonio Nusa came close with a powerful shot, which was comfortably saved by Mio Backhaus, the Bremen goalkeeper. Shortly after, David Raum’s free-kick just grazed over the crossbar. Senne Lynen also narrowly missed the target with a volley following an impressive play from Romano Schmid.

As the game progressed, Leipzig began to assert their dominance, effectively limiting Bremen’s possession. A notable opportunity arose in the 25th minute when Ridle Baku found himself unexpectedly free in the box but dragged his shot wide of the goal. Five minutes later, Ouédraogo tested Backhaus with a long-range effort, forcing the keeper into a solid save.

Ouédraogo continued to threaten, forcing another save from Backhaus, which resulted in a series of corners for Leipzig. Christoph Baumgartner had a chance to score, but his effort was aimed straight at Backhaus. Before the half-time whistle, Backhaus made another crucial save, this time denying Baumgartner’s deflected strike that was heading for the far post.

The second half saw Bremen emerge with renewed energy. Just minutes into the restart, Schmid’s shot required a good save from Péter Gulácsi, and from the subsequent corner, Keke Topp’s header narrowly missed the target, hitting the side netting. Cameron Puertas also called Gulácsi into action with a fierce shot.

Leipzig regained their composure around the hour mark but faced a counterattack from Bremen as Jens Stage broke through on goal, only to be thwarted by an exceptional tackle from Yan Diomande. Baumgartner was then denied on the goal line by Marco Grüll, keeping the match scoreless.

Leipzig finally broke the deadlock when Ouédraogo unleashed a stunning shot from 20 yards with his weaker left foot, finding the top-left corner and leaving Backhaus with no chance. The Red Bulls extended their lead ten minutes from time when Baumgartner won a header from a corner, setting up substitute Schlager, who skillfully turned and fired into the bottom corner.

As the match drew to a close, Bremen pressed for a goal in hopes of sparking a comeback, but Leipzig maintained control for a well-deserved 2-0 victory. Despite the final score suggesting a comfortable win for Leipzig, Bremen had multiple opportunities and could have easily altered the outcome of the match.
