Ruben Amorim Reflects on Manchester United s Struggles After Everton DefeatRuben Amorim Reflects on Manchester United s Struggles After Everton Defeat

Ruben Amorim remarked that Manchester United is far from competing at the top of the Premier League table after their disappointing 1-0 defeat to 10-man Everton on Monday.

United had an opportunity to secure a place in the Champions League with a victory over David Moyes’ team at Old Trafford. However, it was Everton who emerged victorious, even after Idrissa Gueye received a red card just 13 minutes into the match for an incident involving teammate Michael Keane.

In his post-match comments, Amorim stated that his team “deserved to lose” and expressed concerns about repeating last season’s poor performance, which saw United finish in 15th place. “We are not there, not even close to where we should be to contend for the top positions in the league,” he noted. Despite recent positive performances, he remains apprehensive. “I fear returning to the disheartening feelings of last season, and that is my greatest concern.”

Amorim was particularly disappointed by the lack of fight shown by his players, expressing envy for the determination displayed by Everton, even in light of Gueye’s dismissal. He conveyed to his squad the importance of exhibiting the same level of effort during their training session at Carrington.

“Fighting is not a negative trait,” Amorim explained. “It doesn’t imply discord; rather, it signifies the willingness to reclaim possession to avoid conceding a goal. That was my observation during the match. I hope my players demonstrate that same tenacity when they lose the ball. It is a positive aspect of the game.”

He added, “My players have shown their capabilities in various matches; unfortunately, today we did not. We are determined to improve in the future but are understandably frustrated with today’s outcome. We will regroup in training tomorrow as we prepare for our next match.”

Currently, United sits in 10th place in the Premier League following the defeat to Everton and will next face Crystal Palace away on November 30.
