Amorim Reflects on United s Struggles After Everton DefeatAmorim Reflects on United s Struggles After Everton Defeat

Ruben Amorim stated that Manchester United is far from being competitive at the top of the Premier League table after their recent 1-0 defeat against 10-man Everton on Monday.

Despite having the opportunity to secure a spot in the Champions League with a victory at Old Trafford, it was Everton who claimed all three points, even after Idrissa Gueye was sent off early in the match for an altercation with teammate Michael Keane.

In his post-match comments, Amorim admitted that his team “deserved to lose” and expressed his ongoing concerns. He noted that, despite a recent string of positive performances, he still fears a repetition of last season’s dismal results, which saw United finish in 15th place.

“We are not there, not even close to where we should be to contend for the best positions in the league,” Amorim remarked. “Over the past five weeks, everyone has praised our progression, but I continue to express the same concerns. We have not approached the level expected at this club.

“I am anxious about reverting to the feelings of last season, and that remains my primary concern.”

Amorim expressed disappointment in his players, admitting he envied the fighting spirit exhibited by Everton, even if it resulted in Gueye’s early dismissal. He urged his squad to demonstrate a similar attitude during their training session at Carrington on Tuesday.

“Fighting is not a negative attribute,” Amorim asserted. “It doesn’t indicate a lack of camaraderie. When you lose possession, you should fight for it, as conceding a goal is at stake. That was the impression I had while observing the game.

“I hope my players will exhibit that fighting spirit amongst themselves when they lose the ball. Such an attitude is constructive, not detrimental.

“Once more, my players have shown that we are capable in many matches. Unfortunately, today was not one of those days. We are determined to improve moving forward, and today has left us feeling quite frustrated.

“We have training scheduled for tomorrow, and we will prepare for our next match.”

As it stands, United finds themselves in 10th place in the Premier League following the loss to Everton, with their next match scheduled away against Crystal Palace on November 30.
