In a decisive match, goals from Assan Ouédraogo and Xaver Schlager propelled RB Leipzig to a 2-0 victory against Werder Bremen, allowing the Red Bulls to reclaim second place in the Bundesliga.

The first 20 minutes of the game were intensely competitive, with both teams showcasing strong attacking plays. Antonio Nusa unleashed a powerful strike that was comfortably saved by Bremen’s goalkeeper Mio Backhaus, while David Raum’s free-kick narrowly sailed over the crossbar. Senne Lynen also came close, volleying just wide after a well-executed setup from Romano Schmid.

As the match progressed, Leipzig began to assert control, restricting Bremen’s chances on the ball. The first significant opportunity arrived in the 25th minute when Ridle Baku, returning from international duty, found himself in space but unfortunately dragged his shot wide from the right side of the box.

Five minutes later, Ouédraogo tested Backhaus with a shot from 25 yards, prompting a good save. The newly-capped German international followed up with another attempt, which led to a series of corners for Leipzig. The best chance of this sequence fell to Christoph Baumgartner, whose lackluster effort was directed straight at Backhaus.

Before halftime, Backhaus was called into action again, making a spectacular save against Baumgartner’s deflected strike that looked destined for the net.

After the break, Bremen emerged with renewed energy. Within minutes, Schmid forced a save from Péter Gulácsi, and from the subsequent corner, Keke Topp’s header struck the side netting. Cameron Puertas then forced another save from Gulácsi.

Leipzig regained their composure as the match approached the hour mark, though they were nearly punished by Jens Stage’s breakaway, thwarted only by a brilliant tackle from Yan Diomande.

Baumgartner was then denied by Marco Grüll, who cleared the ball off the line. Moments later, Leipzig took the lead when Ouédraogo delivered a stunning strike with his weaker left foot from 20 yards, finding the top-left corner and leaving Backhaus with no chance.

With ten minutes remaining, Leipzig doubled their advantage when Baumgartner won a header from a corner, setting up substitute Schlager, who skillfully turned his defender before firing the ball into the bottom corner.

Although the final score suggests a comfortable victory for Leipzig, the match was far more challenging. Bremen had several excellent opportunities and could have easily altered the outcome.
