Pep Guardiola has expressed feelings of “embarrassment and shame” following his interaction with a television cameraman after Manchester City’s defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday.

The incident occurred on the pitch at St James’ Park, where Guardiola appeared to confront the cameraman in a heated manner. Additionally, he engaged in animated discussions with both referee Samuel Barrott and Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimarães after City’s 2-1 loss.

In a press conference on Monday, Guardiola addressed the incident with the cameraman, revealing that he had already apologized for his actions. “I feel embarrassed, ashamed when I see it,” he stated. “I don’t like it. I apologized immediately to the cameraman. I am who I am. After 1,000 games, I’m not a perfect person; I make significant mistakes. It’s not just about that. What is certain is that I defend my team and my club.”

Ahead of Bayer Leverkusen’s visit to the Etihad Stadium for the Champions League on Tuesday, Guardiola delivered a somewhat pointed comment regarding Claudio Echeverri’s situation. Echeverri, currently on loan from City to Leverkusen, has found limited playing time since his transfer to the Bundesliga.

Guardiola noted, “I always wish that players can gain ample minutes; the intention is always there. We hold an incredible appreciation for him as a football player. I am quite certain his agent is aware of everything.”

When asked if Echeverri could return to City in January, Guardiola replied, “That is a question for his esteemed agent.”
