Sebastian Kehl, sporting director of Borussia Dortmund, has provided an update on the ongoing contract negotiations with center-back Nico Schlotterbeck.

The discussions gained attention after a video clip circulated widely online, showing Kehl seemingly avoiding a handshake with Schlotterbeck during a player presentation at Dortmund’s recent general meeting.

In response to the ensuing speculation, Kehl addressed the matter in the mixed zone following Dortmund’s Champions League victory last night. With a broad smile, he downplayed the situation, stating that the incident had no bearing on their negotiations. He firmly dismissed rumors suggesting that talks were faltering.

“I was surprised and laughed a lot about it,” Kehl remarked. “Both Schlotti and I are aware of the reactions. The way the clip appears is somewhat unfortunate, but there’s nothing of concern. Everything is fine. There are no issues; the negotiations are proceeding as planned, and many interpretations have been inaccurate.”

With a light-hearted tone, he added, “It’s impressive how stories keep evolving to keep you busy. I’ve already addressed this before the game, and it hasn’t been long since we last talked about it.”
