Sevilla FC continues to struggle with an ongoing injury crisis. Following the latest medical report concerning Gabriel Suazo, the club has now seen 14 first-team players suffer from muscular problems this season. This persistent issue reflects a troubling pattern from previous years that remains unresolved.

In the recent match against Espanyol, Adnan Januzaj, Rubén Vargas, and Chilean defender Gabriel Suazo sustained injuries, adding to the team’s challenges ahead of the derby this Sunday.

The quest for an optimal starting eleven has been severely hindered by these injuries, leading coach Matías Almeyda to not replicate the same lineup throughout the first 13 matches of LaLiga EA Sports. Ahead of the encounter with Real Betis, Nianzou’s absence has been confirmed, as he will not return to action until next year. Meanwhile, Isaac Romero and César Azpilicueta are working hard to recover in time for the crucial match on Sunday. Azpilicueta, a key player for Almeyda, is taking a cautious approach to avoid a setback.

Muscle-related issues began during preseason and have plagued multiple players, including the recurrently injured Nianzou (quadriceps), Isaac Romero (adductor), Ramón Martínez (hamstring), Chidera Ejuke (adductor), and Rubén Vargas (hamstring). Almeyda remarked, “They are considering conducting a more specific study to understand why so many injuries are occurring. I am a coach, not a doctor or physiotherapist, and I have neither the time nor the inclination to delve into that.”

Januzaj faced a muscle injury following the opening match against Athletic, and Stanis Idumbo also suffered an adductor issue. The Congolese winger, born in France, has since been transferred to Monaco. Sow was unavailable for the matches against Getafe and Girona due to an adductor problem, while Akor Adams (long adductor) and Chidera Ejuke (left hamstring) also incurred injuries in August. Additionally, Alfon’s ankle injury was compounded by Nianzou’s second muscular setback. After returning, Nianzou played only two matches before being sidelined again.

In October, César Azpilicueta sustained an injury to his left thigh adductors, while Batista Mendy suffered a similar injury during the game against Mallorca. Alexis Sánchez was also injured against Real, affecting his hamstring, alongside Agoumé. The injury list expanded to include Cardoso, who is dealing with a soleus injury. As of November, Azpilicueta is still recuperating from a soleus injury, while Isaac Romero has been sidelined with a right adductor issue. The injuries sustained against Espanyol have added Januzaj, Rubén Vargas, and Suazo to the growing list of absentees.
