César Tárrega has been the focal point in the press room at the Ciudad Deportiva de Mestalla. The central defender, a key figure for the team who has played every minute of the season, is confident that Valencia has initiated a shift in momentum. Following two strong performances, the team has climbed out of the relegation zone, a significant first step towards further progress. “There is room for improvement. We have gone through a negative streak and must enhance our performance away from home to secure more points. The dynamics have changed, and this is reflected in our gameplay as we strive to continue in this direction.”

Regarding necessary reinforcements, Tárrega stated, “I have great confidence in this squad. From day one, we have had a sufficient team to compete and aim for higher placements. We have a solid group for competition, but any reinforcement will be welcome.”

On tactical adjustments, he mentioned, “We have been working on both options. We are adopting a three-man backline with Pepelu. The full-backs are playing higher, which can simplify our approach depending on the opponent. It is beneficial to have alternatives.”

Tárrega emphasized the importance of finding the team’s identity: “I don’t believe this is merely a change of system. We have been working on it since day one. Last year was different, and we have various strategies to implement if the opponent neutralizes our play. Perhaps we have finally discovered the right approach.”

Reflecting on the recent error against Betis, he acknowledged, “In elite football, you must coexist with mistakes. It is quite frustrating that my error led to a goal. We also need to focus on the psychological aspect to improve daily.”

Discussing Copete’s situation, he expressed, “Copete has proven to be a great professional and player. He is an excellent teammate. At the beginning of the season, he faced unnecessary pressure. He always gives his all and wants the best for the team.”

Tárrega noted the varying profiles of his central defensive partners: “Each player brings their own qualities and strengths. Mosquera contributed in ways that have helped him reach where he is now. With Copete and Diakhaby, I feel comfortable, and we must blend well together.”

Addressing the relationship with Coach Corberán, he stated, “Since he arrived, I was somewhat astonished. At no point has the squad had any issues with the coach. We are fully behind him and united. Regardless of what is said, we will continue to work as a team.”

On reconciling with Mestalla, he reflected, “My relationship with the coach is very positive. He has given me total confidence, and I feel happiness and gratitude. I believe I have grown significantly. When things are not going well, the crowd can be discontented. It is inevitable to feel the pressure from Mestalla and the murmurs, but at this level, we must adapt. It is not pleasant, but our job is to turn boos into applause.”

When asked about perceived injustices regarding the team, Tárrega remarked, “I feel that sometimes things are taken out of context; rather than helping, they create false narratives. We remain distanced from that. Spreading false information does not benefit the team or the club. We are in a bubble, but it does not help.”

As for physical issues, he noted, “Against Betis, I had a knock on my knee, but beyond that, it is just minor strains, nothing significant.”
