Chelsea delivered a resounding 3-0 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge, marking the end of Barcelona’s remarkable 53-match scoring streak. Hansi Flick’s squad had maintained a consistent scoring record since their 1-0 defeat to Leganes on December 15, 2024.

Over the past year, Barcelona has frequently showcased their attacking prowess while struggling defensively, a pattern most starkly highlighted during last season’s 7-6 aggregate loss to Inter in the Champions League semifinals. In the match against Chelsea, Barcelona’s defense was repeatedly exposed, relying on an offside trap that occasionally succeeded but ultimately faltered under the relentless pressure exerted by Enzo Maresca’s team.

Ferran Torres had an early chance to score but missed a one-on-one opportunity against Chelsea’s keeper, Robert Sánchez. Chelsea dominated the match from the outset, taking the lead when Ronald Araújo was red-carded just before half-time, following a Joules Koundé own goal. The second half saw Chelsea extend their lead with additional goals from Estêvão and Liam Delap.

Throughout the match, Chelsea had three goals disallowed—one due to a handball by Wesley Fofana and two for offside infractions.

Despite being LaLiga’s top scorers with 36 goals in 13 matches and having netted 12 times in the Champions League this season, Barcelona’s performance against Chelsea was disappointing, as they managed only five shots, with just two on target.

Currently, Barcelona sits second in LaLiga and a disappointing 15th in the Champions League standings, while Chelsea has moved up to fifth in the Champions League and second in the Premier League.
