Nicolas Raskin Reflects on Challenging Season and Future with RangersNicolas Raskin Reflects on Challenging Season and Future with Rangers

Nicolas Raskin, the midfielder for Rangers, has recently opened up about his challenging start to the season, highlighting a period during which he felt misrepresented after falling out of favor under former head coach Russell Martin.

As summer transfer rumors circulated, Raskin found himself sidelined for crucial matches, a decision that drew considerable criticism from the fans. In reflecting on his situation, the Belgian international acknowledged having doubts about his future with the Scottish Premiership club. However, he is now receptive to extending his contract, which has 18 months remaining.

“I believe there was an inaccurate image painted of me during that time, which did not reflect what was happening internally,” remarked the 24-year-old while looking ahead to an upcoming Europa League match against Sporting Braga.

Raskin candidly admitted, “I can’t lie – that period was really difficult for me. I am still striving to regain my best form, both physically and mentally. It hasn’t been ideal, and I have not enjoyed every aspect of it. There have been many misconceptions circulating.”

He emphasized the importance of focusing on his performance, stating, “I had to remain quiet, do my best to get back into the team, and contribute positively to the squad. I am now looking forward and aiming to improve.”

The decision to exclude Raskin from the squad during a notable Old Firm derby against Celtic was reportedly backed by senior players, with the former coach accusing him of being distracted by transfer speculation. Raskin reflected on that challenging moment, saying, “It was tough, and I had clear indications that my future was uncertain – but that is in the past now. We are working towards building something new. I prefer not to be involved in drama.”

Currently under contract until the summer of 2027, Raskin conveyed that should he leave Rangers, he hopes it would be beneficial for both parties. “I am very happy here. With a new manager, we are trying to create something good. I am not making any decisions right now; I am simply waiting for discussions and focusing on giving my best for the club.”

He added, “If I have to leave, my wish is for everyone to be satisfied and for the departure to be amicable. I do not want to leave without providing value to the club. Rangers have significantly aided my career, allowing me to represent my national team and perform on a prominent stage. Therefore, I will strive to give back as much as I can.”
