Dowman Shines as Arsenal U19s Secure Victory Over BayernDowman Shines as Arsenal U19s Secure Victory Over Bayern

Max Dowman delivered an impressive performance for Arsenal’s Under-19s, helping to secure a convincing victory over Bayern Munich. The talented 15-year-old showcased his skill by cutting in from the right, maneuvering past three defenders with an audacious nutmeg and a graceful pirouette, before deftly lifting the ball over the goalkeeper. This goal marked Dowman’s second of the match, contributing to a strong win for the Gunners, who celebrated their first success of the 2025-26 Youth League campaign, with Kyran Thompson and Ceadach O’Neill also adding to the scoreline.

Dowman was not the only notable young talent on the field. Luis Munoz made history by coming on as a substitute in the second half, becoming the youngest player to ever feature in the youth competition at just 13 years old, playing the final five minutes of the match.

Dowman’s skillful goal against Bayern Munich further emphasizes the potential of this emerging star. Having already made five appearances for the first team this season, he became the youngest player in Champions League history when he took the field in Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Slavia Prague, breaking the previous record held by former Borussia Dortmund star Youssoufa Moukoko. However, his participation in the U19 match means he will not be available for the senior squad’s upcoming fixture against Bayern at the Emirates, where both teams boast a perfect record in the Champions League thus far.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised Dowman following his Champions League debut, stating, “It doesn’t get any harder than this competition. Max, at 15, takes the ball and immediately starts to take on opponents and win free kicks. That shows the personality these young players possess. I am truly pleased to see them on this journey, and I hope they continue to develop. His playing style attracts a lot of contact, and he has an exceptional ability to time his movements. We have a tremendous player in him.”

Former Arsenal star Jack Wilshere also expressed high regard for Dowman, recalling a past experience when he first witnessed the young player’s talent. Wilshere reflected, “It’s difficult because I don’t want to make bold predictions about his future, but every challenge he has faced, he has excelled. I remember coaching him when he was just 13 years old during a match against Southampton, and he stood out immediately. What’s most important is that he is a great kid with a supportive family who genuinely wants the best for him.”

As the season progresses, Dowman will be hoping for more opportunities to contribute to the first team. His remarkable performance for the U19s against Bayern certainly enhances his prospects for selection. If Arsenal can secure qualification for the next stage of the Champions League early, Arteta may consider providing this talented wonderkid with additional minutes as the Gunners conclude their league phase with matches against Club Brugge, Inter, and Kairat.
