Nicolas Raskin Reflects on Challenging Season and Future at RangersNicolas Raskin Reflects on Challenging Season and Future at Rangers

Nicolas Raskin, the Rangers midfielder, shared insights into his challenging start to the season, expressing concerns over how he was portrayed during a period of uncertainty under former head coach Russell Martin.

The Belgian international faced significant scrutiny as he was sidelined for crucial matches amid summer transfer speculation, a situation that drew sharp criticism from the club’s supporters.

Reflecting on his experiences, Raskin admitted to having doubts regarding his future at the Scottish Premiership club but is now open to extending his contract, which has 18 months remaining. “I think there’s a narrative that was attempted to be constructed about me that did not accurately reflect what was occurring within the club,” the 24-year-old commented as he anticipated Thursday’s Europa League match against Sporting Braga.

Raskin described a particularly trying period, acknowledging, “I can’t lie – it was really difficult for me at that time. I’m still working towards regaining my optimal performance, both physically and mentally. It hasn’t been enjoyable, and I’ve encountered a lot of misinformation.”

Despite the turmoil, he focused on the importance of maintaining professionalism. “I had to remain composed and strive to contribute to the team. Now, I’m looking ahead and aiming for improvement.”

Under Martin’s leadership, Raskin was excluded from the squad for a critical Old Firm derby against Celtic, with the coach suggesting that the decision had the support of senior players, and implying that Raskin was distracted by transfer rumors.

Reflecting on that challenging moment, Raskin stated, “It was a tough time when it became clear that my future was uncertain – but that is now behind me. We are working towards building something new. I’m not inclined to be part of any drama.”

He emphasized his commitment to the team, saying, “I’m focused on performing my role to the best of my ability and contributing to the club’s success. I hope we can secure our first three points tomorrow.”

With his contract extending until the summer of 2027, Raskin expressed that if he were to leave Rangers, he would want the club to benefit from the situation. “I am very content here,” he explained. “With a new manager in place, we are striving to establish something positive. I am not making any decisions unilaterally; I am simply waiting for discussions regarding my future.”

He further noted, “If I do have to leave, I want all parties to be satisfied and to part on good terms. Currently, there is no inclination on my part to leave for free. The club has provided me with numerous opportunities, including a pathway to the national team, and I am eager to give back as much as possible.”
