Injury Updates and Recovery News for Sevilla FCInjury Updates and Recovery News for Sevilla FC

Sevilla FC is in urgent need of positive news as they continue to face a series of setbacks. Recent updates have confirmed the worst fears regarding Adnan Januzaj and Rubén Vargas, both of whom are suffering from hamstring issues in their left thigh. Additionally, Gabriel Suazo will miss the upcoming Sevilla derby due to a soleus injury in his left leg.

Consequently, these three players will join Tanguy Nianzou, who is out for an extended period, in the club’s medical facilities. Amidst these challenges, there is a silver lining for the team.

On Wednesday, César Azpilicueta returned to full training after overcoming a soleus injury in his right leg. The Navarrese had attempted to return for the match against Atlético de Madrid but sustained an injury just hours before the game against Osasuna. Last Sunday, he resumed running at the training facility, and this morning he participated fully in the first training session ahead of the match against Betis.

During today’s training at the sports complex, Nemanja Gudelj worked in the gym, while Nianzou, who is not expected to return until early 2026, engaged in continuous running.

César Azpilicueta has been a regular starter for Sevilla whenever he has been fit. Until his injury in the opening play against Mallorca, he had played every available minute. “He is crucial for us; he leads on the pitch. Interestingly, whenever he is absent, we tend to lose,” acknowledged his coach, Matías Almeyda. In the six matches he has participated in, excluding the one against Mallorca, Sevilla has recorded three wins, one draw, and two losses, conceding six goals with him on the field compared to 15 in his absence.

The news of Azpilicueta’s return is complemented by updates about Alexis Sánchez and Lucien Agoumé, who have also featured in recent matches, as well as Fábio Cardoso and Isaac Romero, who are likely to be included in the squad for the derby. Thus, Sevilla is managing to recover some vital players, particularly the two veterans, who are expected to help mitigate the significant losses the team has faced in recent days.
