Valencia Mayor Requests Scheduling Change for Upcoming MatchValencia Mayor Requests Scheduling Change for Upcoming Match

In a letter addressed to Javier Tebas, President of LaLiga, Valencia’s Mayor, María José Català, has formally requested a change in the schedule for the upcoming match between Valencia CF and Sevilla FC, set to take place on Sunday, December 7, at 16:15 at Mestalla. This request arises from concerns due to the coinciding Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Marathon, which will feature 35,000 runners and is expected to significantly engage the city until well after 15:00.

The mayor urges Tebas to reconsider the decision following a previous negative response to the club’s request for a scheduling change. The municipal government believes that the overlap of these two major events could severely hinder access for fans wishing to attend the match, as many streets will be closed for the marathon, complicating travel into the city.

In her letter, Català stresses the importance of adjusting the match time to ensure that both the football fans and marathon attendees can enjoy their respective events without significant disruption. She highlights that the marathon attracts not only participants but also a considerable number of spectators, emphasizing the festive atmosphere it brings to Valencia.

The organization of the marathon entails the closure of several main streets and avenues, further complicating access to Mestalla for fans, given that some road closures will extend beyond 15:00.

Therefore, due to these access challenges for football fans, the mayor requests that all possible measures be taken to reschedule the match.
