Sebastian Kehl Comments on Nico Schlotterbeck’s Contract Negotiations

Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, recently spoke about the ongoing contract negotiations with center-back Nico Schlotterbeck.

This comes in light of a viral video from Dortmund’s recent general meeting, in which Kehl appeared to intentionally avoid shaking hands with Schlotterbeck during a player presentation on stage.

Addressing the situation in the mixed zone following Dortmund’s Champions League victory, Kehl responded to the controversy with a smile, asserting that the incident held no significance. He categorically dismissed rumors suggesting that the negotiations were not progressing.

“I was surprised and found it quite amusing,” Kehl remarked. “Both Schlotti and I have heard about the reactions. The way it looks is somewhat unfortunate, but there is nothing serious going on. Everything is fine; there are no problems. The negotiations are not stalling, and there have been many misguided interpretations.”

Kehl humorously noted, “It’s great that we’re always generating stories to keep you guys busy. I already addressed this before the game, and it hasn’t been long since we discussed it.”

He added, “We are working to create the right conditions that offer Schlotti an attractive environment. Ultimately, he wants to be successful and compete for titles, which is what we all aspire to. We also want to fulfill his financial expectations.”

Concluding his remarks, Kehl expressed hope for a favorable decision from Schlotterbeck, stating, “If not, we will prepare ourselves accordingly. I remain optimistic because this club holds significant importance for him.”
