Joey Veerman Reflects on Memorable Victory at AnfieldJoey Veerman Reflects on Memorable Victory at Anfield

Playing at Anfield is a special experience for every footballer, and achieving a 1-4 victory there is even more remarkable. Joey Veerman, who previously visited the Liverpool stadium twice as a spectator, recognizes the significance of this achievement. In an interview with SoccerNews, he reflects on his journey.

Veerman fondly recalls his memories of Anfield, acknowledging that the realization of PSV’s dominance over Liverpool will likely sink in over time. “I don’t think many people can say this. It feels incredible. We had a solid game plan, fought for each other, and rightfully secured the win,” he stated.

The atmosphere at Anfield is something that captivates both players and fans alike. Veerman has experienced both perspectives. “I’ve been here twice before; one match was Liverpool against Arsenal, which ended 5-2 in favor of Liverpool. I can’t recall the other match as I was younger and attended as a fan.”

When asked about the difference between being a spectator and a player on the pitch, Veerman remarked, “The issue is that when you’re on the field, you only see the first two rows. You don’t really pay attention to the crowd. As a player, you don’t fully absorb the atmosphere. I suppose it could be a personal thing; some players may feel it more, but I don’t. I don’t feel the energy in the same way.”

Despite this, he acknowledges that he will remember this match for a long time. “It still feels surreal. Tomorrow, we will undoubtedly think: ‘What just happened here?’”
