Feyenoord has encountered some challenges recently, as they suffered a loss to NEC, widening their gap with league leaders PSV to six points. Despite these setbacks, there are positives to note within the team. Luciano Valente, recently transferred from FC Groningen, has been praised in FC Rijnmond and is increasingly seen as a potential new leader for Feyenoord.

Valente has quickly established himself since his move to Rotterdam last summer, showing significant development in his game. Bart Nolles, the presenter of FC Rijnmond, has suggested that the midfielder should take on the role of captain. Former striker Geert den Ouden supports this idea, stating, “There are currently three players who do not fully meet the expectations of a captain, and this has been widely discussed. Perhaps Valente could indeed be the genuine leader this team needs. I think that’s a reasonable suggestion.”

In a recent decision, coach Robin van Persie stripped Quinten Timber of the captaincy and handed the armband to newcomer Sem Steijn. However, Steijn has struggled to meet expectations and appears to be grappling with the responsibilities that come with the captain’s role. Den Ouden commended Valente for speaking out about the team’s focus following their disappointing match, acknowledging that it is impressive for someone so young to express such insights.
