Matías Almeyda spoke to the media this morning after Sevilla’s penultimate training session ahead of the upcoming derby against Real Betis at the Sánchez-Pizjuán. In addition to discussing the match and the team’s preparations, the Argentine coach took a moment to commend Manuel Pellegrini. He also addressed the injuries of Isco and Amrabat, who were injured during last night’s Europa League match against Utrecht.

Regarding Pellegrini, Almeyda stated, “He is a gentleman of football. Although I have not had the pleasure of meeting him personally, nor have I faced him on the pitch, he has my utmost respect as a human being. I know many people who have worked with him, and the players who have played under his guidance speak very highly of him, referring to him as a great coach and an exceptional person.” This morning, the Verdiblanco club announced Pellegrini’s contract extension until 2027.

Almeyda continued, addressing the injuries of Isco and Amrabat, “They are the opponents we will face, and I never take joy in the misfortune of others. I wish no ill upon anyone, as such sentiments tend to return. I hope they recover swiftly and are able to participate as well.”

He concluded by emphasizing the importance of focusing on his own team: “For me, it is essential that all players who can participate do so. Otherwise, we risk expending too much energy on matters that do not concern us. My focus is on our squad; I do not have Vargas or Suazo, and whoever stands in front of us… We must take the necessary steps. They are tremendous players with a solid team and an excellent coach, but our energy is directed toward ourselves.”
